Farm Town Safety Tips
Farm Town is a very nice farming game that allows you to build your very own virtual farm with crops and animals. You are able to communicate with other farmers from across the entire world. For the most part farm town has been a safe game to play however, recently there have been people who have made it their goal to destroy good games like farm town for their own personal profit. These people will do whatever it takes to earn that little extra cash.
Farm Town is unfortunately prone to internet scams because of its communication system. People can easily send messages to people they have never met. Anyone can message you in the marketplace or inn. Also when you hire someone to work for you they can view your whole farm. I have outlined in this article some tips for staying safe on farm town and other online games.
1. Never give away any personal contact information to other players on farm town. Even if the farmers claim to be your friends, they could in reality be people with greedy intentions from another country. This includes social security numbers, bank account numbers, phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, etc.
2. Do Not put any type of personal information in the name of your farming avatar. Remember information you put in the name of your avatar is visible to anyone when you enter the Marketplace or Inn.
3. It might not be a good idea to post links to your personal profile anywhere in the game. Remember once again, that this information can be viewed by anyone you come across during the game.
4. Be careful to Not reveal anything too personal in the design of your farm. You do not want to tell the world anything too private about yourself.
5. Lastly just use your common sense. Remember what you were taught back when you were about 5 years old. If you ever have any questions regarding safety just ask someone you know and trust.
Unfortunately every year internet scams rise tremendously. Some reports have estimated that over $200 million each year is lost in internet scams. So take into account these few tips while playing farm town and other online games. Do not be too worried about safety though. You should still be able to enjoy playing the game.
In the last part of this article I will tell you what you can do if you feel players around you are violating the safety of others.
Farm town has a feature where you can easily report a player for abusive behavior such as spamming, abusive language, alcohol related activity, etc.
To take advantage of this feature all you have to do is left click on an avatar and click the report abuse button. You then will be asked to fill out a form describing the abusive behavior. It might take awhile for farm town to review your report. If they find the activity to be abusive they might consider banning the account of that person.
Be careful not to overuse this feature! You don’t want to get your own account banned for spamming this section. One curse word is not going to kill anyone. However, extremely racist comments or loads of cursing are probably worth reporting.
There is also a very easy and cool way to block someone if you find them spamming or being abusive to just you. All you have to do is again left click on their farm town avatar button and then click the ignore button. If you click yes on the next window you will basically become invisible to them. Now they cannot send you messages unless they are connected to you through your buddy list. In that case just delete them from the list.
